THE WAITING ROOM AT ATTENTION OF CHILDREN LIVING WITH HIV

Abstract
Groups of Waiting Room it is a form of psychotherapeutic intervention support that provides information to patients and their families. In this space, there are patients with HIV who require the prevention and treatment guidelines, since, according to the Ministry of Health there are 2.1 million children living with HIV worldwide pediatric patients. This study aimed to report the educational interaction between medical students, pediatric patients living with HIV and their families in the waiting room in a hospital in the interior of Bahia, Brazil. The present descriptive study, the experience report type. The activities took place twice a week for a period of three months, consisting of guidelines for HIV, oral hygiene, healthy eating and consequences to noncompliance with treatment. The activities demonstrated positive effects for patients and families, especially in the use of recreation as an intervention strategy. Both realized the need for a multidisciplinary team that includes a psychologist, nutritionist and general practitioner for monthly monitoring and subsequently every two or three months. For medical students, was offered the consolidation of basic knowledge in pediatrics and primarily related to HI. Nevertheless, this strategy allowed the transformation of the waiting room in a nice area, contributing to humanizing care. Hence arises the need for further investment and dissemination of this action in order to carry out health education, since this article can contribute greatly in the expansion of this type of activity.
